Oil Becomes "a Key Link" in Niger's Economy, According to a Political Scientist

According to Nigerien political scientist Moussa Hamidou, cited by Sputnik Africa, the oil sector has become central to Niger's economy: the country doubled its oil revenues in 2025, reaching 453,8 billion FCFA. These revenues are notably driven by the pipeline connecting Niger to Benin, which crosses 33 communes. According to the analysis relayed by Sputnik, these royalties are expected to fund schools, water points, and health centers at the local level, making the pipeline a vector for territorial development as well as an export infrastructure.
