South Africa: North West province banks on geoscience to attract mining investments
The Premier of South Africa's North West province, Lazarus Kagiso Mokgosi, met on Wednesday with Council for Geoscience Chairperson Kelepile Molete and CEO Mosa Mabuza to explore a partnership around geoscience and mining, according to a statement from SAnews.gov.za. Discussions focused on the strategic role of geoscience in unlocking investment opportunities, supporting responsible mineral resource development, improving land-use planning, and strengthening the province's resilience to geological and environmental risks. Areas of collaboration identified include joint research, skills development, infrastructure project support, groundwater resource management, and the use of geoscientific data for spatial planning. "The North West province is richly endowed with mineral resources that continue to play a critical role in our economy. Our engagement with the Council for Geoscience is an important step toward strengthening collaboration in the fields of mining exploration, infrastructure planning, environmental sustainability, and investment promotion," stated Lazarus Kagiso Mokgosi.
