Ghana: Mahama touts an "open for business" economy to attract Indian pharmaceutical investors
Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama stated that Ghana is "open for business," inviting Indian companies to invest in the country's pharmaceutical and vaccine sectors, according to a statement released by APO Group on behalf of the Presidency of Ghana. The statement was made during a courtesy visit to the Presidency by Indian Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. "Ghana's economy is doing well. It is stable. Inflation is low, interest rates are dropping, and the currency is holding strong," Mahama said, adding, "I believe this is the best time to invest." According to him, foreign direct investment in Ghana reached $2.6 billion in 2025, with projections exceeding $3 billion in 2026. Mahama cited the partnership between Atlantic Life Sciences and local group KinaPharma as a model for developing national vaccine manufacturing capacity, under a new pharmaceutical framework prioritizing domestic production, integrated into the #ResettingGhana and Accra Reset programs. The Ghanaian government plans to take this message to the upcoming US-Africa summit. Jaishankar's visit extends the bilateral rapprochement initiated after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 2025 state visit.
