Niger: State increases its stake to 40% in the Madawela uranium project

On September 23, 2026, the State of Niger and Madawa Mining Company (Mamico) signed a new mining agreement for the Madawela uranium project, raising the State's stake from 10% to 40%. According to a memo based on RTN's 8:30 PM news, the agreement includes an initial royalty of 10 million dollars as well as commitments on employment and local content. The Minister of Mines, Commissioner Colonel Abarch Ousman, stated that this agreement "marks a new milestone in the enhancement of Niger's mineral resources." The text establishes a development framework expected to create around 1000 jobs for Nigerien youth, with priority given to local companies for works and the supply of goods and services.
