Togo: Public Treasury raises 22 billion FCFA on the WAEMU financial market
The Togolese Public Treasury has mobilized 22 billion FCFA on the regional financial market of the West African Monetary Union (WAEMU), according to Financial Afrik. This operation is part of the now regular practice of WAEMU member states, which use the public securities market managed by UMOA-Titres to finance their budgets, refinance their debt, or support investments through Treasury bills and bonds. The source dispatch, which is very concise, specifies neither the maturity of the issuance, nor the yield obtained, nor the subscription rate for investor demand (banks, insurers, sub-regional pension funds). These elements would be necessary to fully assess the attractiveness of the Togolese signature to regional investors at this specific time. For Lomé, each successful fundraising on this market confirms the state's ability to finance itself without systematically resorting to foreign currency external debt, a strategic challenge in a context of international monetary tightening and heightened vigilance regarding debt sustainability within the WAEMU zone. From an analytical perspective, the regional investors' appetite for Togolese paper depends as much on the country's macroeconomic fundamentals as on the general bank liquidity context in WAEMU and the competition between national treasuries in a common market where several states issue simultaneously.
