Kenya: Nairobi Wine Fair signals a new era for experience-driven events, featuring 100 brands and 37 exhibitors

Nairobi is establishing itself as a premium consumption hub in East Africa, driven by a growing urban middle class and a dynamic horeca sector. The 7th edition of The Wine Fair Kenya, held Saturday at the Jockey Club on Ngong Road, illustrates this upscale shift in the local lifestyle offering. Over 100 wine brands, represented by 37 exhibitors, transformed the venue into a showcase dedicated to wine, gastronomy, and art de vivre, bringing together producers, importers, and hospitality professionals. More than 1,000 visitors attended, according to Capital FM. Exhibitors included Galina Wines, Lolie Wines, KWV, Wines of South Africa (WOSA), California Wines Institute, Millésimes Wines, and The Wine Box. For producers and importers, particularly South African ones via WOSA and KWV, the event offers direct access to one of the region's most dynamic markets for imported wine. For Kenyan restaurateurs and hoteliers, it serves as a networking platform and a discovery space for new products to feature on their menus. The joint presence of WOSA, KWV, and the California Wines Institute confirms the growing competition between South African suppliers—historically dominant on the continent thanks to geographical proximity—and American producers looking to penetrate East Africa. It remains to be seen whether this seventh edition reflects a lasting rise in wine imports in Kenya or if it remains a niche market for an exclusive clientele.
