Burkina Faso records a "historic" 48% drop in malaria-related deaths in 2025

According to Burkinabe Health Minister Robert Kargougou, cited by Sputnik Afrique, the country registered a dramatic decline in malaria in 2025: cases dropped from 10.8 million in 2024 to 7.3 million in 2025, while deaths related to the disease fell from 3,523 to 1,900, representing a 48% reduction. This improvement is notably attributed to a vast distribution campaign of 15 million insecticide-treated mosquito nets. Burkinabe health authorities present this result as one of the most striking advances in the country's anti-malaria fight over the past decade.
