AUDA-NEPAD launches Africa Green Transition PPP Fund to finance the continent's green industrial transition
The African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) has announced a new investment vehicle dedicated to the continent's energy transition during the ministerial segment of the STC Summit in Abidjan. The announcement comes as Africa struggles to capture global climate finance flows despite its solar, hydro, and wind potential, and seeks bankable structures for its low-carbon industrialization. According to African Business, the Africa Green Transition PPP Fund will mobilize blended finance combining public, concessional, and private institutional capital across four areas: renewable energy, electrical transport and transmission, water-energy projects, and industrial decarbonization. A first close is targeted at the Africa Business Forum 2026. The source, an African Business partner content, does not specify a target amount, partner institutions, or identified pilot projects. For African states, this fund could structure bankable public-private partnerships in a sector hindered by perceived risk. For project promoters, an application window is opening ahead of 2026. The experience of continental PPP funds shows that the difficulty lies less in the announcement than in the effective mobilization of capital in the face of currency and sovereign risk. The absence of figures and announced anchored investors calls for caution until the Africa Business Forum 2026.
