Chad: Nédéou Teubdoyo Gérard takes the helm of the anti-corruption authority
Nédéou Teubdoyo Gérard was sworn in on August 20, 2026 before the Supreme Court relocated to the Palais Toumaï in N'Djamena as the new General Controller of the Autorité indépendante de lutte contre la corruption (AILC), succeeding Ousmane Abderaman Djougourou. Mahamat Saleh Youssouf Wachoun simultaneously took the oath as Deputy General Controller, replacing Fatimé Abdelkérim Soumaïla. According to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic of Chad, the formal hearing took place in the presence of the Head of State, Marshal Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, the presidents of major institutions, and members of the Supreme Court. The ceremony was chaired by Supreme Court President Samir Adam Annour, who had the Chief Registrar read the appointment decree. Prosecutor General Guedna Kawoye Florent recalled the legal provisions governing the AILC and the oath formula before the two recipients pledged to perform their duties "with loyalty, integrity, and impartiality, in the higher interest of the nation." The exact reason for replacing the two previous leaders was not specified in the statement. This change places a new leadership team at the head of the institution responsible for transparency in public management, in a country where oil revenues and budget support from international donors remain subject to heightened accountability requirements. This installation comes in a context of post-transition institutional consolidation, initiated since the election of Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno in May 2024.
