Zambia: Lusaka validates its practical implementation guide for the AfCFTA
On September 24, 2026, in Lusaka, Zambia validated its « Step-by-Step Guide for Trading in Goods », a practical guide designed to facilitate the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) by Zambian businesses. The document was developed by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), through its African Trade Policy Centre, on behalf of the Zambian Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry, in collaboration with the Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI), with funding from the Danish agency DANIDA and German cooperation GIZ, according to UNECA. The validation workshop brought together public institutions, the private sector, and development partners. Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Director Simmy Chapula presented the AfCFTA as a key instrument for Zambia's Vision 2030 to achieve upper-middle-income status, under the « Grow Zambia Agenda » and its « Vision 10-10-5-3-3-1-1 ». Eunice Kamwendo from UNECA described the guide as a « timely and practical tool » and identified agriculture, agro-processing, manufacturing, mining, mineral beneficiation, livestock, and fisheries as high-potential sectors, with Zambia being linked to the COMESA and SADC markets.
