Niger: 500 youths sent to Algeria for vocational training in 19 trades
Five hundred Nigerien youths are leaving Niamey for Algeria on two flights, on September 29 and 30, 2026, as part of a vocational training program between Niger and Algeria. The first flight, scheduled for September 29, carries 350 youths; the second, the following day, takes 150. According to a factual note based on the transcript of a video broadcast on September 28, 2026, by ORTM, these youths will be trained in 19 different trades on Algerian territory. The program, officially launched in Niamey, targets candidates based on defined criteria, notably holding a vocational studies certificate. A support mechanism is planned to facilitate their professional integration upon their return to Niger. The funding amount and details of the training fields have not been specified. For the 500 beneficiaries, this program represents direct access to a technical qualification. For Niamey, the initiative is part of a diversification of training partnerships. This cooperation comes at a time when Niger is seeking to strengthen partnerships with neighboring countries. Algeria, bordering Niger and boasting a structured vocational training system, is positioned as a local partner for upskilling Nigerien youth, in a country facing strong demographic pressure and structurally high youth unemployment.
